How it works
The conversion is plain arithmetic: BTC = sats ÷ 100,000,000 and fiat = BTC × price. Your browser fetches the price directly from the mempool.space price API (/api/v1/prices). If that fails it tries the CoinGecko simple price API. If both fail, it uses the last price saved in your browser (localStorage, never sent anywhere), and failing that you can type a price. Sats and BTC conversion never needs the network.
Prices from these feeds are indicative spot prices, not a quote you can trade at. Exchanges add spreads and fees.
Why count in sats?
Wallets, Lightning invoices and fee rates (sat/vB) all use satoshis, so it helps to know what a sat amount is worth. Small purchases are easier to read as "21,000 sats" than "0.00021 BTC".
